Non-Biblical Sources For The Existence Of Jesus

In this article I will be going over nine extra-biblical ancient sources that lend incredible support to the accuracy of scripture. The reason that I am writing this post is because there are alot of people who don't believe Jesus even existed. While there is no serious historian that I know of that doesn't believe Jesus existed, this post is for those skeptics out there who doubt the historical accuracy of scripture. While most if not all of these sources paint Christ/christians in a negative light their testimony that the events in the bible are true lend undeniable support that Jesus is real.

1. There's the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus (who wasn't a christian) that calls James the brother of Jesus who is called christ. Gal 1:19
2. There's the Talmud that confirms that Jesus was executed at passover as well as other things (see my post KJV pt. 2 for more info).
3. The Roman historian Tacitus (hated Christianity) confirmed that Jesus was killed by Pilate during the reign of Tiberius and that his followers were persecuted and slain also.
4. The Syrian philosopher Mara Barr Serafian confirmed that Jesus was a wise and influential person that died for his beliefs, that the Jewish authorities were to blame for his death, and what he taught lived on through his followers.
5. Pliny the younger who was a Roman governor also lends support that christians were persecuted, meet on a fixed day, sung hymn to Christ as God, and described their behaviour aka not commiting fraud, adultery, etc. He also wrote about them partaking in the Lord's supper.
6. Roman historian Suetonius confirmed Jesus was called christ and his followers lead very different lives.
7. From Lucian of Samosatta we see that Jesus was worshipped, crucified, that christians believe that they have eternal life, are brothers from conversion, they deny the gods of greece, and live after christ commandments. Christians also despise worldly goods and treat them as common property. See Acts 4.
8. Celsus- From him we see that Jesus had a carpenter father, born in a Judean village, and had unusual powers.
9. Then we see that Thallus- wrote that Jesus was crucified and mentions the darkness and earthquake during it.

So in conclusion it turns out that there is more evidence for the existence of Jesus than almost any other historical figure of his time.
