In this small post I'm going to give the reader the reason why I belief why it is unwise and possibly even sinful to eat mechanically separated meats.
If you check the Ingredients on the packages of some pepperoni, hotdogs, bologna, and other meats you might come across the ingredient mechanically separated chicken or turkey. So what's the big deal with that you may ask? Well, according to my research and the links provided I have gathered the following information.
According to the Jamie Oliver video when he demonstrates how chicken nuggets are made he seems to imply that the blood is left in the meat. In the mcdonalds pink slime video we see that blood from off the bone is mixed in causing the pink color.
What's more according to the fox news link and a seperate link below, mechanically separated chicken is the fowl/poultry equivalent to pink slime aka "lean finely textured beef". In the bestfoodfacts link below I find it interesting how this dr. Owens doesn't deny the color of the meat is from blood. Note: it is a chicken that Jamie Oliver is handling the same type of meat used in mechanically separated meats, so doesn't this mean imply mechanically separated chicken doesn't drain the blood?
I have been avoiding mechanically separated meats for years because of the possibility of the meat containing blood which the bible forbids us eating in both the old and new testament (Gen 9:4, Levi 3:17, Lev 7:26-27, Lev 17:10-14, Deu 12:16, Deu 12:23-27, Acts 15:20, 15:28-29, 21:25)
The red juice you find in raw red meat at the supermarket however isn't blood but a combination of water and Myoglobin.
In conclusion I think It is very important to us as Christians to avoid eating mechanically separated meats even though they are cheaper because they might contain blood. Don't make the excuse of that's all I can afford to buy, trust in God not money, how hard is it for those that trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God (Mar 10:24), you cannot serve God and mammon (Mat 6:24).
