Today we will be going over some of the un-biblical teachings of the religious group known as the Unification Church.
A) This religion was founded by a Korean man named Sun Myung Moon. Adherents to this religion believe in Moon's book which is called the divine principle, they also believe that Sun is the second coming of Christ. This group is especially known for it's mass weddings. The bible warns us that there would be false teachers who claimed to be Christ (Mat 24:4 -5).
Erroneous Teachings of The Unification Church
B) Moon teaches that man was created from clay, water, and air (The Divine Principle Chapter 1 Section 3.2). The bible says God form man from the dust (Gen 2:7). They also teach that eve was sexually seduced by Satan (Chapter 2 section 2). C) Additionally they do not believe in the literally account of Genesis when it says that God made the world in six literal days (Exo 20:11).
D) Let's talk about how the Moonies view God for a second. The Unification church teaches that Jesus is a "true person" although they deny that he is God in the flesh. Regarding the Holy Spirit they not only teach that it is female but she is Sun's wife. Now I already have a post out that proves Jesus is God so I need not address that here, however the bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is God and Male not female. Please refer to my upcoming post on the Holy Spirit for more details.
E) This church teaches that Jesus didn't rise physically from the dead, they also claim that he failed to procure our "physical" salvation (The Divine Principle Pt 1 Ch. 4 Sec 4). The bible teaches that Jesus did rise physically from the dead as he had flesh and bone and did eat (Luk 24:39, Luk 24:42 -43). They claim that Jesus was supposed to get married and make a family but died before he could reach that goal (Blessing and Ideal family ch. 2), on the contrary his death purchased his bride (Eph 5:25-27, Eph 5:31-32). They teach that Jesus didn't come to die on the cross (The divine Principle Ch. 4 Section 1.3, ). The bibe teaches that he did come to die on the cross (Psa 22, Isa 53, Mat 16:21-23, Mat 27:35, Mar 15:34, Luk 24:44-46, Joh 3:14, Joh 12:23-33, Joh 10:17-18, Joh 19:30, 1 Jn 4:10).
F) The Moonies have what's called a chastening ceremony where the husband and wife chasten each other from the position of God. They think that a few swats on the butt reverses any past sexual immortality and grants them Gods grace and forgiveness, the bible teaches that it's Jesus' blood that cleanses our sins (1 Jn 1:7).
G) The last thing that I will mention is that there is a three day ceremony after the wedding where the wife gives rebirth to her husband from the position of his mother afterwards she receives him from the position of his wife, then we have the husband doing a similar ceremony. This sounds a-lot like incest to me (Lev 18:7). They then wipe themselves with holy handkerchiefs after mating, and are told not to wash but store and protect them like the children of Israel did the ark. In conclusion we see that the Unification Church like the JW's, Christian Science, and Seven day Adventist have an incorrect view on who Jesus and the Holy Spirit is. They also are quite confused when it comes to the Doctrine of Salvation as well, they deny the sufficiency of the cross to take care of all our sins and bring about both our physical and spiritual salvation. This is one group that needs either a sharp rebuke or shown the true gospel.
