For today's article I want to cover a few things that Pastor Steven Furtick said that I believe to be unbiblical. This posts is a warning to all Chirstian's to always be comparing what teachers say with scripture so as to not be deceived.
1. Furtick seemingly embraces/promotes the Modalism heresy.
In the sermon, Furtick quotes John 16:7, which says, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away.”
“How could you say something like that Jesus?” Furtick says. “How could you say it is good that you are going away? We followed you. We trusted you and now you are leaving us.
“No, I am not leaving you,” Furtick adds. “I am changing forms. Up until now I have walked with you, but when I send my spirit I will be in you, so I am not leaving you, I’m just changing locations.”
I have a separate article addressing this issue so I needn't refute this heresy here.
2. Steven said "God broke the Law for Love"
Which is equivalent to saying God sinned for love.
1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
The bible is clear that love is the fullfillment of the law, which makes Steve's statement nonesense.
Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
3. Furtick has claimed that Jesus Can't override your unbelief
4. I feel the spirit of Run DMC coming upon me.
5. Furtick believes the primary or only goal of church is evangelizing the lost.
“If you know Jesus Christ, I’m sorry to break it to you, this church is not for you,” Furtick says. This applies even if you’ve only known Christ for as little as a week. “Last week was the last week that Elevation Church existed for you,” Furtick declares.
While I'm certainly not opposed to witnessing to unbelievers, Steven seems to not understand that church is supposed to be about the worshipping of God and edification of believers. The churches function is to help Christians grow in their walk with the Lord.
Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Refrences.
