Admonition updated

Today I will e covering the unbiblical teaching of easy believism, which is the belief that a person who professes to believe on Christ is saved even though they show no true signs of conversion (repentance of sin, good fruit, a changed life, etc). New material in Green.

Now don't get me wrong and think that I'm teaching works based salvation, I am not. However scripture is clear that there are false converts out there (2 Cor 11:26, Tit 1:16), who are also known as wolves in sheep's clothing (Mat 7:15). You will be able to identify them by there fruit (Mat 7:17-20), they are the ones who identify themselves as Christians but does not do what He says (Mat 7:21-23, Mar 7:6).

This teaching will also cover the question "Can a Christian Lose their Salvation?"
I don't believe a Christian can lose their salvation, like it's something that just accidently happens one day by mistake; but I do believe a Christian can believe in Christ one day and then leave Christ for some other faith later on, or continue in habitual sin and deny him that way and thus forfeit salvation.
Now I will go over some verses that support my conclusion.

Those that are truly saved are the ones that continue to believe in Jesus, not the ones who said a "sinners prayer" and then forget all about him (Psa 9:17, Luk 9:62, 1 Cor 15:1-2, 2 The 2:3, Heb 3:6, Heb 3:12, Heb 3:14, 1 Joh 1:8-9). Note the "eth" in the following verses which indicate present not past tense belief (Mar 16:16, Joh 3:16, Joh 3:36, Rom 3:26, Rom 10:4, 1 Joh 5:10,) see also Col 1:23.

The book of 1 Timothy says that there will be some people who will depart from, cast off,err from, and deny the faith (1 Tim 4:1, 1 Ti 5:8, 1 Tim5:12, 1 Tim 6:10).

Four instances of losing salvation in Matthew?

What do you think, do these verses teaches we can lose our salvation?
  • Believers who lose their saltiness 5:13
  • The unforgiving servant 18:21-35
  • Ten Virgins 25:1-13
  • The man with 1 talent 25:14-30

Consider the parable of the sower, there are those seeds sown among rocks and they only believe for a while then when temptation hits they fall away (Luk 8:13-14).

Jesus was not soft on sin as he told us to take drastic action if necessary to avoid hell (Mat 18:7-9). That is because he knows the portion of the hypocrite is hell (Mat 24:48-51, Luk 12:45-46, Joh 5:29, Joh 15:2, Joh 15:6, Rom 2:8-9).

Simon the Sorcerer was a great example of a false convert, he both believed and was baptized and yet he still was considered to be in the gall of bitterness and the bond of iniquity (Act 8:13-23).

Scripture repeatedly warns us that the covetous, Fornicators, Idolaters, etc will not be inheriting the kingdom of God (1 Cor 6:9-10, Gal 5:19-21, Eph 5:5-7). We are also warned of the dire consequences of after having received the knowledge of the truth but then turning from it afterwards (Heb 6:4-8, Heb 10:26-29, 2 Pet 2:20-22).

There are so many warnings in scripture, they just don't make sense if you don't have to worry about your behavior after salvation. you got Paul keeping his body in subjection so he won't be a castaway (1 Cor 9:27), Peter admonishing us to be sober and vigilant on the count of Satan (1 Pet 5:8), and Jesus warning the church of Ephesus to do the first works (Rev 2:1-5), and saying he will spue out the Laodiceans for their lukewarmness (Reve 3:14-16).

We are also warned about being cut off after having been grafted into the body of Christ if we don't continue in his goodness (Rom 11:19-22). The Apostle Paul feared that he bestowed upon the Galatians labor in vain, even though they were "known of God" because they continued to observe days, months, etc (Gal 4:8-11). Trying to earn salvation by keeping the law is a sign of having fallen from grace (Gal 5:4).

Consider also the following points

  • If you deny Jesus he'll deny you, Mat 10:33
  • Unforgivable sin,  Luk 12:9-10
  • The deaths of Ananias and Sapphira Act 5:4-5
  • The church deemed it necessary to avoid blood, fornication, and Meats offered to Idols              Act 15:19-20
I know that some may argue that the book of Hebrews and James are written to the Jews of the great tribulation, but even if I grant that to them, we still have verses in the Pauline epistles, and Peter that teaches that those who live lives of  unrepentant sin will not inherit God's kingdom.
Just because no one can pluck you from the Fathers hand doesn't mean you can't jump from the Father's hand. And to those who use Romans 8 to say we can't lose our salvation; please not that sin isn't on that list and also it says any other creature, doesn't that mean that you are excluded from the list.

Also note that I didn't include any verses from the old Testament (saving the Gospels), that's because I didn't want anyone to raise the objection "that was under the law of the OT, now we are saved by grace".  However, if any of you guys are interested here are a few OT refrences to "losing salvation".

Eze 18:24  But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
Eze 18:25  Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
Eze 18:26  When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Eze 33:12  Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
Eze 33:13  When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

So in conclusion we know that the true followers of Christ are the ones who keeps his commandments (1 Joh 2:3-4, 3:6-9, 3:23-24). In other words those who are saved are the ones who Love and Obey him (Jam 2:5, Heb 5:9).
