A Bible Study On Trust

For today's article I will be going over the importance of trusting God. This is such a crucial topic for me to cover because there is alot of fear and anxiety in the world today, all of which stem from a lack of trust in God. This will be a short & simple albeit important post that encourages believers to walk closer with God.

Bible Verses About Trusting In God

Two of the old testament saints that are recorded as trusting in God that I will be mentioning today is Ruth and Job. This is evidenced by Ruth leaving her parents and homeland to enjoin herself to the children of Israel (Rth 2:11-12); we also have Job claiming that he would trust God even if he slayed him (Job 13:15), it doesn't surprise me if this was the case as God did call Job Perfect.

Perhaps one of the clearest passages about trusting Jesus in the OT is Psa 2:12; it tells us that Blessed are all they that put their trust in him (referring to the Son).
Isa 57:13 is a great verse of scripture which tells us of the results of trusting God.
Nah 1:7 tells us that the Lord knoweth those that trust in him, whereas in Mat 7:23 Jesus tells those that work iniquity that he never knew them, therefore those people never truly trusted Christ.

Eph 1:12-13  shows us that trusting God comes after hearing the gospel, and that we receive the Holy Spirit of promise after we believe; faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God, there is no other name under heaven given amongst men whereby we must be saved (Rom 10:17, Psa 9:10, Act 4:12). Once we are converted we labor and suffer reproach because we trust in the living God (1Ti 4:10).
How do we trust God? We pour out our heart before him Psa 62:8, we cast all of our care on him (1Pet 5:7), we let not our heart be troubled (Joh 14:1), as christians we need to learn to trust in God when we are afraid (Psa 56:3, Isa 12:2).  We trust in his sovereignty, as Christians we know all things for together for our good (Rom8:28). I will rap up this part by exhorting my readers to trust in the Lord with all their heart (Pro 3:5), and to trust in him for ever (Isa 26:4).

Verses About Trusting in Other Things, Told Not To Do So, ect

On the other hand there are several bible passages that speak of people trusting in things other than the Lord such as chariots/horses (Psa 20:7), Pharaoh (Jer 46:25), and the mountain of Samaria (Amo 6:1). One of the more common things that I believe people trust in especially nowadays are riches. There are many bible passages that refute or condemn this way of thinking including Job 31:24-28, Pro 23:4-5, Mar 10:24-25, and 1Tim 6:17.

One of the few bible verses that doesn't condemn trusting in things other than God is Pro 31:11, where it speaks of a husband safely trusting in his virtuous wife. Isa 42:17 is a verse condemning Idolatry as we see that those that trust in graven images shall be greatly ashamed.

One of my favorite go to passages on this topic is Jer 17:5-6, it tells us that cursed is the man who trust in man...who's heart departeth from the LORD.
Are you doing this sin? I see it all the time with people trust in Doctors, Pastors, Scholars, and others in authority or that have "credentials. As christians we must never place our faith in fallible man instead of God who loves us and is infallible (Psa 118:8 -9).

If your thinking about street preaching Eze 33:13, Rom 10:3, & Php 3:9 are good verses to bring up because it shows us not to trust in our own righteousness. If you have ever seen the living waters youtube channel I highly recommend it. In his video's Ray comfort shows people that they are not a good person by giving them the law; this shows them their need to trust in the saviour.

Other Verses on Trust

Am I the only one who see's Jesus as the bramble in Jdg 9:15, after all our God is a consuming fire, he is the King, and they plated Jesus' head with a crown of thorns when they were about to crucify him. Psa 119:42 is a awesome passage about trusting in God's word, and Mat 12:21 is about trusting in Jesus' name.

In conclusion we see that trusting God is a key part in the Christians walk of faith. In times of war it is God that protects us (2Sa 22:3, 2Sa 22:31, Psa 18:2 , Psa 44:5-7, Psa 115:9), in times of sickness it is God who heals us (Psa 103:3), in times of famine it is God who provides for us (Psa 34:10, Psa 37:3). Because of this we can be assured that whatever our crises or whatever our need God is there for us.

  2. I adore this post and think it essential for today's Christians. There were a few typos, which take away from its impact. overall I love it! One thing I feel I need to address is the fact that, the concept of trusting in the virtuous wife is not fully explained and thus gives way to misunderstanding. please consider this. Great post!
