Christ and Christ-types in the OT.

 Today we will be looking at the appearances of Jesus in the Old Testament as well as biblical figures who were or may be considered symbols of Christ. I will be aiming for 30 Christ types and appearances. 


First let's look at some people or things in scripture who could be considered a symbol of Christ

1. Isaac- the sacrificial son

2. Joseph - Suffered unjustly then exalted to save his brethren

3. Job- Perfect yet Afflicted

4. David- Man after God's heart, King, Man of War

5. Solomon- Exceedingly rich and wise, son of David, king of peace.

6. Hosea- demonstrated the unconditional love of God

7. Jonah-3 days in whale (tomb) then spit out (rose).

8. The Ark of Noah- Enter to escape God's wrath

9. Boaz-Kinsman Redeemer

10. Elijah- Miracle worker, Ascended to heaven

11. Enoch- Pleased God, Ascended

12. Moses- Law-giver, mediator, Deliverer from bondage.

13. Joshua- name similar to Christ, brought people into promised land

14. The Sacrificial Lamb.

15. Abel-Martyred for righteousness

16. Noah-was perfect, his name means rest, preacher of righteousness.

17. The Judges- Deliverers of God's people

18. Samson- Defeated more enemies in his death than in his life.

19. Jeremiah-acquainted with grief and sorrow, thrown in pit and brought out (death and resurrection).

20. Abraham-father of many nations, stranger and pilgrim. Jesus is the Everlasting father and had nowhere to lay his head.

Next let's look at some times where Christ appeared in the OT.

21. Appeared unto Abram with two angels.

22. Melchizedek- Is possibly a pre-incarnated Christ.

23. The Man- that wrestled with Jacob?

24. The burning bush.

25. Appeared in a Flame to Moses and 70 elders of Israel.

26.The Captain of the Lord's hosts- that appeared to Joshua, could've been Christ.

27. The Angel of the Lord that appeared to Gideon?

28.The Angel of the Lord-that appeared to Manoah's wife?

29. The angel of the Lord that blessed Hagar.

30. The 4th Man- in the fire with Daniel's friends.
