The Peril of Easy Believism

For today's article I want to warn my readers regarding the topic of easy believism, this article could also be titled "a bible study on licentiousness". I will discuss 4 Main points and then give supporting scriptures.

The four points I will cover are....

  1. I'm NOT teaching works Salvation
  2. The Sinners Prayer
  3. Examples of False converts
  4. Define Licentiousness

You are not Saved by Works

Before I continue this study I find it pertinent that i address this issue. This is because whenever you tell someone that they must repent of their sin, then there is a chance someone will come along and say your teaching lordship salvation or salvation by works. The truth is this NO ONE is good enough to earn there way into heaven. The only deserving man to merit heaven was Christ and that was because he was God in the flesh and sineless. Beware of self-righteousness.

Eze_33:13  When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

Rom_10:3  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Php_3:9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Although repenting of your sins doesn't cause you to earn eternal life, you still must repent because sin is an affront to God and he will not be mocked. Those that love sin hate God and although we wont be perfectly sinless in this life, a true Christian will strive to be more like Christ and work on ridding sin from their life. For more on refuting salvation by works read Eph 2 and Rom 5.

The Sinners Prayer

This is the whole crux of the issue; the sinners prayer.

There are many, many people out there today that label themselves "Christian" because they were raised in church and said a sinners prayer. Nothing can be more dangerous to a persons soul that to convince that someone is saved because they repeated a prayer one time in their life and now they are going to heaven no matter what. I am not ashamed to say the following. Just because you said a prayer one time when you were a teenager or young adult doesn't mean your going to heaven. You can't say a prayer, profess to believe in Jesus and then live however you want the rest of your life. Why is that? Because the components of Salvation are not a one-time shot but an ongoing lifelong thing. The two components of salvation are faith in Jesus and repentance of sins. We continually believe on Jesus and we need to continue to repent of sins. The bible is clear that you can depart from the faith (1 Tim 4) and that those that do things like fornicate, murder, covet, etc will not enter the kingdom of heaven. The point is this...when you are born again you love God and therefore will keep his commandments.

Examples of False Converts

The following are some indications that you may be dealing with a false converts.
  • Never reading their bible
  • Constant or habitual Swearing
  • Loving worldly Television or Music
  • Unwilling to receive Correction
  • Believing False Doctrine, especially about the Godhead
  • Not Providing for their Family
  • Hypocrisy

Licentiousness

The definition of licentiousness according to the websters 1828 dictionary is " Excessive indulgence of liberty; contempt of the just restraints of the law, morality, and decorum..."

The following bible verses I list here are being used to show that you shouldn't expect to go to heaven if you live a life full of habitual unrepentant sin even if you say you believe in Jesus.
