Bible Contradictions 2

101. (179) God forbade David to build a temple because he doesn't dwell in houses / David is a man of war.
1 Chr 17:4 -6, 28:3
It could be Both, or it could be that God just didn't tell him the reason until 28:3.

102. (180) Michal was angry at David for dancing / uncovering himself.
2 Sam 6:16, 6:20
People can be mad at others for more than one reason at a time, also wasn't David supposedly doing these two things at the same time?

103. (185) David did / did not Sin
1 Chr 21:1, 1 Sam 21:3 -6, 2Sam 11:14-17, 24:10, (22:22, 1 King 15:5)
David didn't turn aside from anything the Lord had Commanded him, save Uriah.

104. (186) David did / did not want God to Judge Him.
(Psa 7:8, 143:2)
This is one of the Harder ones I don't really have a great answer for but here are a few suggestions maybe in the Latter Psalm David meant for God not to Judge him in a negative way, or when it speaks of God not entering into Judgment with him is it could be referring to God not being Judged, or it could be since the Psalms might not have been written at the exact same time David was Just not as confident in the latter Psalm than the first. I Realize these aren't the best explanations, but that doesn't mean there isn't a better one out there!

105. (191) David took 700 /7000 horsemen from Hadarezer.
2 Sam 8:3-4, 1 Chro 18:3-4
Horsemen and Foot men were not exclusive categories but horsemen were a sub set of footmen aka they were trained as footmen as well (2Sam10:18, 1 Chro 19:18). horsemen is a floating title so when your on a horse you called a horseman and when you not your not. It could be that at the start of the battle 7000 were on horses and at the end only 700 were on horses.
http://www.kjvtoday.com/home/700-7000-or-1700-horsemen-in-2-samuel-84

106. (192) David killed 18,000 Syrians / 12,000 Edomites in the valley of salt.
2 Sam 8:13, Psa 60:1
Could it be two different battles? Or perhaps there was an alliance of the two?  Just two of my guesses.

107. (194) The Ammonites hired 32,000 /33,000 Mercenaries.
1 Ch 19:6 -7,  2 sam 10:6
1 Chronicles Just doesn't mention how many People king Maachah had.

108. (197) Israel had 800,000 / 1,100,000 soldiers.
2 Sam 24:9, 1 Ch 21:5
The difference is that Samuel didn't include the standing army of 288,000 of 1 Chro 27:1 -15 or the 12,000 specifically attached to Jerusalem of 2 Chro 1:14.
http://defendinginerrancy.com/bible-solutions/2_Samuel_24.9.php

109. -110. (200 -201) Absalom rebelled against David less / more than forty years after returning to Jerusalem. David reigned forty / more than 40 years.
1Ki 2:10 -11, 2Sam 5:2-5,  (5:2 -3, 6:10 -11, 13:23 :38, 14:28, 15:7, 21:1, 24:8-10)
I am Going to guess that the 40 years mentioned in 2 Sam 15:7 was referring to Absalom's age and not how long David had reigned thus far.

111. (202) Solomon's reign began 476 / 570 years after the Israelite's left Egypt.
1 Ki 6:1, (Act 13:17 -22, 1 Chr 29:26-27)
The Problem lies with you adding the 40 years of wilderness + 450 years of Judges + 40 years for the reign of Saul + the 40 years of David. You are overlooking the Fact that the though the Judges individually reigned about 450 years but their reigns over lapped one another so the time was much Shorter than 450 years collectivly. Also Samuel the last Judge Judged Israel all his days and His Judging of Israel Overlapped Saul's reign as well see 1Sam 7:15. the following site has a complex timeline detailing this further.
http://www.bible.ca/archeology/bible-archeology-exodus-route-date-chronology-of-judges.htm

112. (203) Solomon was wise / unwise.
1Ki 3:12, 11:1-4
You are Confusing Having Wisdom with Using it, it's either that or you can lose wisdom see Prov 1:7.

113. (206) Solomon's temple was 100 x 50 cubits / 60 x 20 cubits.
1 Ki 7:2, 2 Chr 3:3
Those are 2 different buildings.

114. (207) The Pillars were 18 / 35 cubits high.
1Ki 7:15, 2 Chro 3:15
Individually 18, Put Together  Approx 35, or see my last answer above.

115. (210) The molten sea in Solomon's temple contained 2000 / 3000 baths.
1 Ki 7:24 -26, 2 Chro 4:3-5
It could hold 3000 but that doesn't mean they always filled it up all the way.

116. (212) There were 2,499 / 5,400 vessels of gold and silver
Ezr 1:9, 1:11
It has been said the the difference were the less valuable or smaller vessels that were included in the latter number.

117. (213) There was one / more than one table for shewbread.
1 Ki 7:48, 2 Chr 4:19
Just because 1 kings doesn't mention tables plural it's not a contradiction a contradiction would be Solomon never made tables for the shew bread.

118. (214) The temple censer was not / was within the holy of holies.
Exo 30:1 -6, Heb 9:1-4
Here are some possible Explanations from the following website:
The alter was inside the veil, the veil was moved on the day of Atonment, there were 2 alters of incense, The golden censer differs from the golden alter, the alter was moved on the day of atonment, the alter was "inside" by doctrinal association.
http://defendinginerrancy.com/bible-solutions/Hebrews_9.3-4.php

119. (216) Hiram sent Solomon 420 /450 talents of gold.
1Kin 9:28, 2Chr 8:18
These could have been 2 different trips.

120. (218) Solomon's temple sacrifices could not / could be counted
1 Ki 8:5, 8:63
the Peace offerings were the ones that were counted, you still have sin offerings, trespass offerings, burnt offerings, freewill offerings.

121. (220) Solomon had 550 /250 chief officers.
1 Kin 9:23, 2Chr 8:10
The following website offers two solutions the first one claims that the one book includes reservist who took the place of those who were sick or died while the other doesn't. The second solution that was offered was that the overseers of Solomon's were were divided into three parts the first 3300, the second 300, the third 250. so you simply add the last two to get the 550.
http://www.thywordistrue.com/contradictions/65-how-many-officers-did-solomon-have

122. (222) God did / did not tell Solomon he chose Jerusalem.
2Chr 6:5 -6, 1 Kin 8:16
God might have been referring to up to that point he chose no city.

123. (223) King Abijam (Abijah) did /did not please the Lord.
2Chr 13:1-2, :15-17, :20-22, 2 Ch 14:1, (1Ki 15:1-3)
None of Those verses you mention in Chronicles say that Abijam pleased the Lord they say how he was victorious in battle and had many wives and children, maybe you should take a look at 1 Kin 15:4 -5 to see why God prospered him.

124. (224) Baasha died in the 26th / after 36th year of Asa.
1 Ki 16:8, 2 Chr 16:1
Father and Son can reign Simultaneously.

125. (225) Omri reigned 12/7 years.
1Ki 16:23, 16:28 -29
Same Answer as previous Question.

126. (227) Elijah / Elisha's deputy anointed Jehu
1Ki 19:13 -16, 2Ki 9:1 -3
I bet part of the reason is because Ahab humbled himself and God said he wouldn't bring the evil in his days but in his son's days see 1 Ki 21:29.
In 2 Kin 2 we see Elisha taking Elijah's place.
See 2 Kin 10:1 -11 to see what Jehu did to the house of Ahab.
http://www.godrules.net/library/pink/43pink_e29.htm

127. (229) Naboth's sons were /were not killed with him.
2 Ki 9:26, 1 Ki 21:13
Where in the text (2Kin 9:26) does it say Naboth's son's were killed at the same time or with him since we know the verse didn't mean literally yesterday.

128. (231) God approved / punished Jehu for the killings at Jezreel.
2 Ki 10:30, Hos 1:4
Read the context of 2 Ki 10:28-31 to find out why God was angry.

129. (235) Jehoshaphat did / did not decline Ahaziah's aid.
1 Ki 22:49, 2 Chr 20: 35 -36
Although Jehoshaphat origionally accepted Ahaziah's help and they built the ships he changed his mind and wouln't let Ahaziah's servents in the ships once the prophet warned him.

http://defendinginerrancy.com/bible-solutions/1_Kings_22.49.php

130. (236) Jehoshaphat was king of Judah / Israel.
2 Chr 20:31, 21:1 -2
There was more than one king Jehoshaphat.

131. (237) Jehoram of Israel / Judah began to reign first.
2 Ki 8:16, 1:17
see also 3:1, 8:25. It depends on what you mean by reign. If you count co -regency then the king of Judah ruled 1 year prior but if you don't then the king of Israel ruled 5 years prior. Other pointers when dealing with chronologies you should take into consideration include different people often had the same name, kings often began their reign as co regent, you can't use a basic block model to add up the #'s because they didn't start on the first of the year and continue in 1 year increments, it's crucial to pay attention to the wording of the text because the meaning of "after 5 years" "in the fifth year" and "reigned 5 years" are all different.
http://hermeneutics.stackexchange.com/questions/6176/who-began-his-reign-first-jehoram-of-israel-or-jehoram-of-judah

132. (241) Ahaziah of Judah began to reign in the 12th / 11th year of Joram.
2Ki 8:25, 9:29
Both are correct. It depends on whether you use the accession-year or nonaccession-year system. the one calculates the following year that someone takes the thrown as the first year while the other counts the year that the person takes the thrown as the first year.
http://defendinginerrancy.com/bible-solutions/2_Kings_8.25.php

133. (242) Ahaziah of Judah died on the run / in Jehu's court.
2 Ki 9:27, 2Chr 22:9
Just because 2 Chro 22 doesn't go into detail about how they slew him it doesn't mean they couldn't have fatally wounded him then he fled to Megiddo and once he died there they could have went and retrieved the body and buried him. That's at least one Possibility. No Contradiction.

134. (243) Jotham of Judah reigned 16 / at least 20 years.
2KI 15:32-33, 15:30
Jotham's Father, King Uzziah was a leper during the last part of his Life
During this time his son took over the Government but only became king after his father died. 2 Chro 26:18 -21
http://www.contradictingbiblecontradictions.com/?p=833

135. (246) Reversing the sun dial was a sign that God would heal Hezekiah / defend Jerusalem.
2Ki 20:7-11, Isa 38:4-8
Both

136. (247) There was no greater king before or after Hezekiah / Josiah.
2Ki 18:1-5, 23:24 -25
Perhaps it wasn't comparing them to each other but to the other kings of  Judah.
No other King Trusted in the Lord Like Hezekiah, No other King turned to the Lord like Josiah. The difference is Josiah didn't start out as a King that followed the Lord.
http://hermeneutics.stackexchange.com/questions/1298/who-was-a-greater-king-hezekiah-or-josiah

137. (249) Josiah destroyed Baalism in the 12 / 18 year of his reign.
2Chr 33:13-16, 2Ki 22:1-3, 23:8, 23:14, 2Chr 34:1 -4
He began to in the 12th year, it doesn't mean he finished in that time.

138. (250) Josiah died in Megiddo / Jerusalem
2Ki 23:29-30, 2 Chr 35:23-24
He is wounded, put in a chariot while he is still alive, begin to go to Jerusalem, on the way he dies before he leaves megiddo, when he arrives in Jerusalem he is already dead
http://www.thywordistrue.com/contradictions/93-where-did-josiah-die

139. (252) Jehoiahkim did / did not have a son succeed him.
2Ki 24:6, Jere 36:30
the Hebrew idea expressed in the phrase sit on the throne indicates a more permanent enthronement. God was telling him that his family name would not continue in the place of leadership, and that no dynasty in his name would continue.
http://defendinginerrancy.com/bible-difficulties/

140. (253) Jehoachin became king at 18 yrs / 8 and reigned 3 months only / and 10 days.
2Ki 24:8, 2Chr 36:9
Jehoachin became co-regent with his dad at 8 and ruler at 18.
You added the "only" part.
http://www.kjvtoday.com/home/eight-years-old-or-eighteen-years-old-in-2-chronicles-369

141. (254) Jehoiachin got out of prison on the 25th /27th day of the 12th month.
Jere 52:31, 2Ki 25:27
He gave the decree on the 25th but it took 2 days to verify and process.
https://answersingenesis.org/contradictions-in-the-bible/get-out-of-jail-twice/

142. (257) The Temple burned on the 7th / 10th day of the 5th month.
2Kin 25:8-9, Jere 52:12-13
Perhaps they came twice, they were burning an entire city after all.
Another explanation is that they set out on the 7th but didn't arrive till the 10th or they arrived on the 7th and stayed a few days.

143. (259 -285) Why are the #'s different of people in the same clan?
Ezr 2:3-69, Neh 7:7 -72
Some will say it's  "scribal errors" or say people were born / died along the way or that those were two different accounts at different points in time.
Ezra is the true account, Nehemiah simply found a erroneous Register (7:5). The total of 42,360 includes the male children. He believes the clans are only including the Men in their numbers.

144. - 145 (286 -287) The Annunciation was before / after Mary had conceived Jesus. The Annunciation was given to Mary / Joseph.
Luke 1:30-31, Mat 1:20
Both. It was given to Mary beforehand and to Joseph after she conceived.

146. (289) The Holy Ghost was given before/ after Jesus' birth.
Luke 1:3, 1:41, 1:67 (Joh 7:37-39)
The way i Understand it is the Holy Ghost would come upon people temporarily before Jesus' Cruxifiction (Judg 15:14, 1Sam 16:14, Psa 51:11 ) but after that He would stay inside believers (Rom 8:9 ,Eph 1:13, 4:30 )

147. (291) Jesus was born when Herod was King / Quirinius was governor of Syria.
Mat 2:1, Luke 2:1-7
How is that a Contradiction?

148. (292) Joseph and Mary lived in Nazareth / Bethlehem.
Luke 1:26 -27, 2:4-5, Mat 2:1
They Moved.

149. (296) John the Baptist was / was not born before Jesus.
Luke 1, Joh 1:30
John was born first but Jesus existed as God before that.

150. (298) Joseph, Mary, and Jesus first went to Egypt / Jerusalem.
Mat 2:14-15, Luke 2:21-22
Matthew simply leaves out the fact they went to Jerusalem first to present him to the Lord.

151. (299) John the Baptist was / was not Elijah.
Mat 11:13-14, 17:12-13, John 1:19-21
Both. He wasn't the Person Elijah but had the spirit and power of him.
Mal 4:5-6, Luke 1:13 -17

152. (301) The Pharisees were / were not baptized by John.
Mat 3:7- 11, Luke 7:29 -30
I Think the Pharisees showed up to John's baptism to see what was going on but didn't actually get baptized. Perhaps some did and some didn't.

153. (305) John's disciples had / had not heard of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 3:11, Mar 1:8, Luke 3:16, Joh 1:33, Act 19:1-3
They could have been too far away in the audience to hear John proclaim about the Holy Ghost, or maybe they didn't show up on the day John was saying that. Maybe John didn't say it over and over and over everyday.

154. (306) John knew Jesus was the Messiah before / after he was imprisoned.
John 1:29 -31, 3:24, Mat 11:2-3
He could have simply knew first then doubted while in prison.

155. (307) John the baptist did / did not know Jesus before his Baptism.
Mat 3;14, John 1:32 -33
Perhaps John didn't know Jesus as the Messiah before he baptized him but still thought he was a Great Prophet or something.

156. (310) The devil took Jesus first to the pinnacle of the temple / mountain top.
Mat 4:5, Luke 4:5
One of the Gospels wasn't in Chronological order it doesn't = contradiction.

157. (316) Simon and Andrew's home was in Capernaum / Bethsaida.
Mar 1:21, Joh 1:44
By reading the verses carefully you find out that Bethsaida is were they originally came from but they must have moved to Capernaum perhaps because they were fishers.
http://www.biblecenter.de/bibel/widerspruch/e-wds25.php

158. (317) Jesus renamed Peter at Caesarea Philippi / near Capernaum / near a certain city / in Bethabara
Mat 16:13, Mar 2:1, 3:13, 16, Luke 5:12, 6:12-14, Joh 1:28
Well, since some of those verses you mention say Jesus went up into a mountain (Mark / Luke) just a few verses before he renames peter so he might have went up into a mountain between Caesarea Philippi and Capernaum, and renamed Peter there and since those two Locations are Relatively close you could say either one is correct since it would have been outside of the town. Bethabara on the Other hand unless i am Mistaken is quite a ways south of the former 2 Locations so perhaps either Jesus said this to him more than once or Joh 1:28 was not referring to verse 42.

159. (321) Jesus gave the Sermon on the mount before / after healing Peter's mother in law.
Mat 5:1-3, 8:14, Luke 4:38, 6:20
It is quite possible Jesus gave more than one sermon. Also the Gospels aren't Carbon copies of one another, one Gospel could have listed the events in chronological order and another didn't.

160. (325) Jesus sondemned / practiced deceit.
Mat 5:37, Mar 7:22-23, John 7:6-10
Jesus didn't lie in John, hence the yet in John 7:8

161. (328) Jesus' message was for all men / the initiated.
Joh 1:7, Act 17:31, Rom 5:18, Mat 13:10 -11
Read the entire context of Mat 13 all the way down to verse 15. The message was for all but the people have closed their eyes.

162. (329) Jesus did / did not tell his disciples everything.
John 15:15, 16:12
1. What Jesus was saying in John 15 could have been Proleptical.
2. What Jesus could have been referring to in John 15 is that everything the Father wanted them to know at present he has told them.

163. - 164. (330 -331) Jesus commanded his disciples to teach Jews only / all nations. Peter was an apostle to the Jews / Gentiles.
Mat 10:2-6, 28:18-19, Act 15:7
They were told to go to the gentiles after Christ was resurrected.

165. (332) The gospel should / should not be preached to Samaritans.
Joh 4:39 -41, Act 8:5, Mat 10:5-6
Before Christ Crucifixion they were to go to the lost sheep of Israel Mat 15:24 but after Jesus rose from the dead they went to the Gentiles as well 28:19.

Mat 12:38, Luke 11:15
Both

167. (342) Jesus did / did not baptize people.
John 3:22-26, 4:2
The disciples baptized on Jesus' behalf.
http://christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/2238/did-jesus-baptize-or-not-in-st-johns-account

168. (343) Jesus did / did not instruct his disciples to baptize others.
Mat 28:19, 1Cor 1:17
Paul was an exception, he had another role to play in the body of Christ.

169. (344) Jesus said they who have seen / not seen are blessed.
Luk 10:23, Joh 20:29
Why couldn't both statements be true?

170. (345) Two hundred pennyworth would / would not have fed the crowd.
Mar 6:37, Joh 6:7
Maybe that's all the money they had on them.

171 (346) James and John were / were not with Jesus when he healed Peter's mother in law.
Luke 4:38-39, 5:8-10, Mar 1:16 -18, :29 -31
Just because Luke doesn't mention that they were there doesn't mean they weren't.

172. (348) Jesus healed all / many that were sick in Capernaum.
Mat 8:16, Luk 4:40, Mar 1:32 -34
A contradiction would say Jesus didn't heal anybody in Capernaum.

173. - 175. (351-353) one / two were possessed with devils, came out of the tombs / city, devils sought not to go out of the country / into the deep.
Mar 5:1-10, Mat 8:28, Luk 8:27-31
Just because other Gospel(s) don't mention the 2nd Possessed man it doesn't make it a contradiction. the Tombs could have been in the city so both can be correct. The two different accounts of the devils request appear to not be contradictory, and they could have said both.

176. (354) Every spirit is / is not godly  that says Jesus is of God.
1 Joh 4:2, Mar 3:11
Read the context of 1 John, spirit was referring to people there.

177. (355) Jarius' daughter was dying / dead when Jesus was approached.
Mar 5:23, Luk 8:42, Mat 9:18
1. Read the whole chapter of Mark 5 and Luke 8 and you will notice Jesus was approached twice about this matter, maybe she was dying during the first approach and died before the 2nd.
2. Another Possible Explanation is that she wasn't dead but in a coma and they just thought she was dead, remember Jesus said she sleepeth.

178. (362) Jesus performed miracles to help people / convince people to believe in him.
Mar 5:19, 5:41-43, Joh 4:48, 20:30 -31
Both

179. (366) The spirit was / was not deaf or dumb.
Mar 9:25, 9:26
The spirit itself wasn't deaf or dumb but those who are oppressed by it are.

180. (372) Jesus' disciples did / did not fast.
Mat 6:16-17, Mar 2:18
They fasted when Jesus' was taken away from them Mark 2:19 -20.

181. (373) Jesus honored / chastened Peter at Caesarea Philippi.
Mat 16:18, 16:23
He did Both.

182. (374) Jesus' transfiguration was six / eight days after he prophesied his passion.
Mat 17:1-2, Luk 9:22
8 comes after 6, and about means approx. no contradiction.

183. (383) The fig tree was male / female.
Mat 24:32, Mar 13:28
Neither but the bible sometimes applies gender to gender-less things
see Ezek 32:7,  luke 7:35

184. (385) Jesus was humble / arrogant.
Mat 11:29, 10:38, 15:26, Luke 14:26, Joh 15:14
Jesus cannot be arrogant because he is God, none of those verses show that he is arrogant.

185. (386) Jesus condemned / practiced anger without a cause.
Mat 5:22, 3:7, Mar 3:4-5, Luke 11:38 -40
Firstly your quote of Mat 3:7 was John not Jesus. Second if you read the context of the other verses you find that Jesus did have a cause to be Angry.

186. (388) The uncommitted are for / against Jesus.
Luk 9:50, 11:23
The uncommitted are against Jesus because they break the first commandment to Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. Read the context.

187.- 188. (394-395) A woman / Mary was rebuked for anointing Jesus.
the woman was rebuked by the disciples / some / Judas Iscariot
Mat 26:6-9, Mar 14:3-5, Joh 12:1-5
Mary was a woman, Judas was a disciple and he was one of the disciples who rebuked her.

189. (396) The disciples did / did not ask Jesus where he was going.
Joh 13:36, 14:5, 16:5
In 16:5, that was some time later and the disciples didn't want to ask again because it grieved them.
http://www.contradictingbiblecontradictions.com/?p=753

190. (397) Jesus went to Jerusalem by choice once / more than once.
Mat 21:10, Mar 11:11, Luk 2:42, 4:9, 19:28, Joh 2:13, 5:1, 7:9
Nowhere does it say he only went to Jerusalem only once.

191. (398) The disciples did / did not bring the animal(s) to Jesus.
Mat 21:2 -7, Mark 11:2-7, Luk 19: 30-35, Joh 12:14
John doesn't say the disciples didn't bring the ass to Jesus, it says basically that Jesus found a young ass. Since he is God he could know where it is without actually being there.

192. (400) The crowds in Jerusalem acclaimed / condemned Jesus.
Mar 11:7-11, 15:12-15
both, the chief priests moved the people to do it.

193. (401) The Last Supper was on Passover / the day before Passover.
Mat 26:19-28, Mar 14:12 -23, Luke 22:13-20, Joh 13:1-2 :29, 18:28
There are 2 different views on this, the first think it was the day of because of Mat 5:17 -18, Mar 14:12, and they take Joh 19:14 to mean the preparation for the Sabbath that occurred in that paschal week. the other view claims it was the day before because Jesus had to eat it a day early so that he might offer himself  the next day as the Passover lamb Joh 1:29, 1 Cor 5:7, it's the plain reading of Joh 19:14, and also because of John 18:28.

194. (405) Judas betrayed Jesus before / after the last supper.
Mark 14:10 -11 : 22, John 13:26-27
He planned it before but didn't carry it out till after.

195. (407) The first communion began with bread / wine.
Mark 14:22-25, Luke 22:17-19
It was cup--bread--cup read the next verse in Luke.

196. (408) Jesus predicted Peter's denial on the mount of olives / at supper.
Mat 26:20 -34, Luk 22:19-39
Maybe he said it twice.

197. (414) One / no disciple was lost.
Joh 17:12, 18:9
the reason why the saving clause "but the son of perdition" is left out is because Judas was already openly declared to be what he was; he was no longer among the disciples, he was separated from them and betrayed Jesus. So he was not among the # of those who Christ insisted on might be let go.

198. (416) There was / was not a witness to Jesus prayer on the mount of Olives.
Luke 22:41-45
1. There need not be a witness to Jesus prayer because the scriptures were given by the inspiration of God. 2 Tim 3:16.
2. Could it not be that what is recorded in Scripture were the first lines of Jesus' prayer that the disciples heard before they fell asleep, they were only a stones cast away and it was probably really quite cause it was night.

199. -200 (418 -419)
Jesus was taken before / after the servant's ear was cut off. Peter / one of them cut off the ear of the high priests' servant.
Mar 14:46 -47, Luk 22:50 -54, Joh 18:10
Peter was one of them. Is it possible they began to take him then Peter cut off the guy's ear then they took him the rest of the way?
