Why I don't read the Lexham English version




The Lexham English version is a relatively new translation as it is only a little over a decade old, it's style is the formal equivalence; which is the word for word type. With that being said, I found a few problems with it as y'all with soon find out. Please enjoy my little expose' on the Lexham bible.
Can You Match The Picture With The Verse?


Gen 9:4  But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. 
Genesis 9:4 "...raw flesh with blood in it}."  (LEB)
Some people think that you can cook the blood out of meat, that is not so, you must drain the blood out.

Exo 1:16  And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 
Exodus 1:16 "...look upon the pairs of testicles..."  (LEB)
Where do they come up with this stuff?

Ezr 1:9  And this is the number of them: thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives, 
Ezra 1:9 "...twenty nine vessels,"   (LEB)
Should say knives

Neh 5:5  Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards. 
Nehemiah 5:5 "...our daughters being molested..."    (LEB)
They were being brought under bondage, the way this version puts it , it sounds like pedophilia was going on.


Neh 9:37  And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress. 
Neh 9:37 "...ruling over our dead bodies... "  (LEB)
um..no, they weren't dead bodies.

Pro 11:30  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. 
Proverbs 11:30 "...captures souls..."   (LEB)        
We don't win people to Christ by forcing them to believe, it must be their choice.

Pro 13:6  Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. 
Prov 13:6 ...wickedness will overthrow sin."   (LEB)
the sinner, not the sin.

Ecc 2:8  I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. 
Ecclesiastes 2:8 "...{voluptuous concubines}."     (LEB)  
KJV is more tactful don't you think?

Son 5:1  I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved. 
Song of Solomon 5:1 ...{drink and become drunk [with] love}!   (LEB)
I might be nitpicking on this verse but it kind of sounds like it's justifying drunkenness.

Dan 7:5  And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh. 
Daniel 7:5 "...three tusks..."   (LEB)
Since when do ribs become tusks?

Hos 12:3  He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
Hosea 12:3 In the womb he deceived his brother...   (LEB)
Babies don't have the mental capacity to deceive.

Zechariah 14:21 changed canaanite to "...{trader}..."    (LEB)

Mal 2:15  And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. 
Malachi 2:15 "{Did not one God make them?} ...And what does the one [God] Desire?..."   (LEB)
This passage should be refering to God making man and wife one flesh, not talking about how one God made them.


Mark 1:1 removes the Son of God   (LEB)   

Mark1:41 "And becoming angry..."   (LEB)
The previous verse has Jesus becoming angry without a cause making him in danger of the Judgment.

Mark 9:49 omits , and every sacrifice shall be...   (LEB)

Act 20:28  Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 
Acts 20:28 "...blood of his own [Son]."    (LEB)
Subtle attack on the deity of Christ

Rom 10:7  Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 
Romans 10:7 removes "...again..."   (LEB)
Presupposes Christ is not risen.

1Co 6:9  Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 
1 Corinthians 6:9 "...nor passive homosexual partners, nor dominant homosexual partners..."  (LEB)
This bible waters it down quite a bit. You can be effeminate and still not be a homosexual. 


2 Corinthians 12:11 removes "in glorying"   (LEB)

Gal 5:12  I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
Galatians 5:12 "I wish that the...would also {castrate themselves}!"   (LEB)
Paul wanted those that trouble them to be cut off, i.e. separated from them, not have them neutered.


Ephesians 3:14 removes of our Lord Jesus Christ,   (LEB)

1Th 2:7  But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 
1 Thessalonians 2:7 "...yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children."  (LEB)
There is no nice way to say it, this verse is just stupid!!!

Heb 3:6  But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. 
Hebrews 3:6 "...hope we can be proud of."   (LEB)
All the proud will be stubble in the day of the Lord Mal 4:1

Well, there you have it! About 20 verses or so of problematic verses from a newer bible translation. So to sum up the Lexham bible has some verses that might be a little disturbing for younger audiences (Exo 1, Neh 5, Song of Solomon 2), as well as some passages that don't make sense (Prov 13, Hos 12, 1 Thess 2). A passage in Acts 20 that can no longer be used to defend Christ's divinity. Then in Galatians we have Paul wishing evil on people.
