What's the Matter with the New Century version

Well it's time again for another bible review. KJV is blue, NCV is red, my remarks in black. It's a long one so I will go ahead and keep this introduction short, enjoy!
Can you find the two bible changes that these pics are referring to?

Gen 12:19  Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
Genesis 12:19 "...I made her my wife..."

Gen 18:5  And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
Gen 18:5 "...bread for you so you can regain your strength..."
Wasn't Abraham talking to God? Why would God need to regain his strength?

Exo 14:25  And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
Exodus 14:25 He kept the wheels of the chariots from turning..."
Quite a big difference from taking the wheels off.

Lev 26:13  I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
Leviticus 26:13 "...I let you walk proudly again."
Contradicts Hab 2:4  "Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith."

Num 16:32  And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
Numbers 16:32 "...all their families..."
Contradiction (Num 26:11).

Num 30:6  And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;
Num 30:6 "If a woman makes a pledge...and then get married,"
This is not what this verse is supposed to say. It basically is supposed to say that if she had a husband when she vowed.

Deu 23:17  There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
Deuteronomy 23:17 "...temple prostitute."
This change makes it seem like it is okay for an Israelite to prostitute herself outside of the temple.

Jdg 14:17  And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
Jdg 14:15 "On the fourth day..."
No, Seventh.

1Sa 1:24  And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.
1 Samuel 1:24 "...three-year-old bull ..."
This passage is supposed to be about the quantity not the age of the bull(s).

1Sa 6:19  And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
1Sam 6:19 "...So God killed 70 of them..."
He actually slew 50,000 more than that.

1Ki 6:23  And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.
1Ki 7:29  And on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work.
1Ki 8:7  For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.
1King 6:23, 1Kin 7:29, 1Kin 8:7 changed cherubims to "creature"
What Creature?

1Kin 15:13 removes grove
groves are closely linked to idolatry in scripture.

1Ki 22:38  And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.
1Kin 22:38 adds "...where prostitutes bathed..."

Ezr 1:9  And this is the number of them: thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives,
Ezra 1:9 "...twenty-nine pans,"
How is a pan the same thing as a knife?

Ezr 2:69  They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests' garments.
Ezr 2:69 "...about 6000 pounds..."
An increase of a 1000 pounds.

Proverbs 1:7, 2:5, 3:7, 8:13, 9:10, 10:27, 14:27, 15:16, 19:23, 31:30 changes the word fear(eth) to the word "respect/respects"

Pro 5:6  Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
Pro 5:6 "...She doesn't even know that her ways are wrong."
What about Joh 9:41?

Pro 26:15  The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
Pro 26:15 "...too tired..."
The way this translation puts it, it seems like the slothful isn't physically capable of lifting his hand; it's kinda like this verse is justifying the slothful in my opinion.

Pro 29:17  Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
Pro 29:17 "...Proud;"

Ecc 9:8  Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
Ecc 9:8 "Put on nice cloths and make yourself look good."
If you consider that white linen is the righteousness of the saints (Rev 19:8), then could it be that this change makes you focus more on the physical outward appearance than your inwards spiritual condition? Check Ecc 9:7  for context, also 1Sam 16:7.

Jer 5:17  And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
Jeremiah 5:17 "...They will eat your sons and daughters..."
Cannibalism?!? Really!!

Eze 16:49  Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
Ezek 16:49 "...They lived in great comfort..."
Having comfort isn't a sin, after all God comforts us and we comfort each other (2 Corinthians 1:4).

Dan 11:37  Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
Daniel 11:37 "...He won't care about... the god that women worship..."

Hos 13:9  O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.
Hosea   13:9 "...I will destroy you..."
Opposite meaning. God is their help, they destroyed themselves.

Jon 4:7  But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.
Jon 4:7 "...died."
Biblically speaking, plants aren't alive.

Mal 2:15  And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Mal 2:15 "...one body and one spirit..."
Husband and Wife don't share a spirit.

Mat 5:32  But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Mat 5:32 fornication changed to "...sexual relations with another man..."
Fornication just doesn't mean adultery but is an umbrella term that covers a varity of sexual sin such as Sodomy, Beastiality, and Incest.

Act 3:25  Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
Acts 3:25 "...descendants..."
See Gal. 3:26.

2Co 2:17  For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
2 Corinthians 2:17 "...sell the word..."
Corrupting God's word and selling it are two different things!
The KJV correctly shows that people have been tampering with God's word for thousands of years, see Jer 23:36. Even their own translations condemn them as they do in fact sell the word for profit!

Eph 4:9  (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph 4:9 removes lower parts of
See 1Pet 3:18-20.

Php 3:3  For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Phillipians 3:3 "...pride is in Christ..."
Rejoice is the proper word, Pride is a sin.

Php 4:1  Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
Phili 4:1 "...proud of you..."

1Th 2:3  For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
1 Thessalonians 2:3 "...nor were we trying to trick you."
In the KJV Paul speaks of more certainty when telling them he wasn't lying to them.

1Ti 5:9  Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
1 Timothy 5:9 "...been faithful to her husband."
Different meaning.

Tit 2:3  The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
Titus 2:3 "...not speaking against others..."
Different meaning than to accuse someone falsely.

Tit 3:10  A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
Tit 3:10 "...causes arguments"
Someone who causes arguments isn't the same as a heretick. A heretick is someone who teaches heresy, aka false doctrine.

Heb 6:18  That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Heb 6:18 adds "...when he makes a promise..."
Is this implying that God can lie when he doesn't make a promise?

Heb 7:3  Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Heb 7:3 "No one knows who...father or mother was...where he came from...when he was born or when he died..."
To be without something doesn't just mean that know body knows who it was.

Jas 1:9  Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
James 1:9 "...should take pride..."
contradicts all the other passages that condemn pride, it's a poor word choice.

Jas 4:5  Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Jam 4:5 "...Spirit that God made..."
Are they implying that the Holy Spirit is a created being? That would be an attack on His Divinity!

1Jn 5:19  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
1 John 5:19 "...the Evil one controls the whole world."

Rev 14:4  These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
Revelation 14:4 "...ones who did not do sinful things with women..."
That's not necessarily the same as a virgin.

So in a brief summary the NCV bible apparently thinks pride is a good thing as shown in several and /or quite a few passages. They also claim the husband and wife share a spirit, claims Satan controls the world, and that a women can only get divorced for adultery with another man, not for bestiality or lesbianism. These are just a few of the problems that I have encountered with the text. Thanks for reading Y'all and please share !!!!
